Colors of Magic

A Blades of the Goddess Anthology

Where we come from does not define where we go

A long time ago, Abomination almost succeeded.

A man who had lost everything found something to have faith in.

A child of the desert found a Master of Blades in a cold forest far from home.

A half-Avari struggling to find a place for himself has his life implode around him.

These stories from the past, both distant and near, are collected into this anthology. Nine short stories featuring Hades, Jak, Sukra, Ander, and more offer a glimpse into life at different moments on Gaia. As magic pulses through the world in a spectrum of colors, how will it shape the characters we have come to know in Blades of the Goddess?

Colors of Magic is a companion anthology to the Blades of the Goddess series, but can be read on its own.

Short Excerpt:

As soon as they succeeded, Alexia knew they’d failed.

It stared at them curiously from within its new prison, form flickering rapidly as though it couldn’t decide what kind of person it wanted to be, but its eyes... those violet eyes remained the same. Oh, the entity was here all right, and it didn’t seem to be able to leave if the flicks of energy exploring the new space were any indication, but…

“Something’s not right,” she heard herself say over the cheers of some of her more exuberant colleagues.

There was a pause in the celebration, deference afforded her based on her status. “Everything looks good here. All blue,” the tech at the monitor panel reported. “The electromagnetism is holding.”

“What is it doing, exactly?” The general assigned to the project strode forward to tap on the glass, narrowing his eyes as the energy tapped back. “Looking for weaknesses? A way out?”

“That’s likely,” one of the senior scientists agreed. “Chances are it’s never been confined this way.”

“But the tests all show that the magnetism should hold it,” another scientist stated.

The general frowned. “‘Should’?”
